Ghost Story Songs inspired by Opeths masterpiece "Damnation"
The inspiration for the Tales series was on one hand this incredible photo from Suzy Hazelwood and
on the other hand the idea to do something in the style of Opeth's album Damnation.
So the thematic framework for these collaborations on kompoz.com was that the lyrics deal
with
ghost stories in some form.
Musically, the classic elements of mellotron, bells, piano or strings are found alongside
drums,
guitars and bass.
Tales is a Series I'm also trying out a new format with Tales. So far, with Edda, I've had the classic concept album, which is six songs on a theme, released all at the same time. Then there are songs that are basically singles that have no relation to an encompassing theme, they stand on their own. Tales is a series: there is a thematic framework, but the songs are released one after the other, a few months apart. It is also deliberately kept open, there can always be new Tales and maybe eventually they are summarized as a collection. |
The tale was told, he was never here
Never existed on this earth
Nothing in the in between
No death, no birth
But how does the voice call
Beckon to his love
No sound, no words
Drift from the clouds above
How does the rose not live
When there's fragrance in the air
The earth becomes still
Deep in thought and prayer
There's a field that is calling
The grass is rich and deep
When the soul lies down there, a true belonging
A spirit that will keep
The tale was told, she was only a dream
Riding high, above the wind
Just a call, a distant longing
Rising again and again
But how does the voice call
Beckon to her love
No sound, no words
Drift from the clouds above
